Progress in the Esmeraldas area.

The CEAD team, in collaboration with the Centre for Community Epidemiology and Tropical Medicine (CECOMET) continues to carry out field work in rural Esmeraldas.

In the parishes of Limones and Borbón, the cohort study is being carried out with a high level of participation. In the next few days, the application of the population survey will begin in these localities.

Next May, field work is expected to resume in the communities of the Onzole and Cayapas rivers. Normally, during the rainy season (from January to April) the flow of the rivers increases, facilitating navigation to access the communities in the area. However, since January the rains have been very abundant, causing damage to the communities and making it difficult to access them. The CECOMET team hopes to be able to move into the area when conditions permit.

The CEAD team hopes that the waters will soon return to their course without further damage to the residents affected by the floods. Water as necessary for communications and life in the communities as it is damaging at times.
